According to a new report released this week by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Association of Children’s Hospitals, more than 12.84 million children in the Us have been diagnosed with novel coronavirus infections since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.In the week ending March 31, there were 27,521 new cases of COVID-19 in children in the US, bringing the total number of children confirmed to be infected to 12,841,170.In the previous four weeks, there were more than 130,000 new cases in children.Since the first week of September, the United States has reported nearly 7.8 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 in children.The age of children varies across the country, with most states setting the age at 0 to 19.The American Academy of Pediatrics says there is an urgent need to collect more age-specific outbreak data to assess the severity of the disease caused by the Novel Coronavirus variant and its potential long-term impact on children’s health.There is a need not only to understand the immediate impact of the pandemic on children’s health, but also to study and respond to its long-term impact on children and young people’s physical and mental health and social activities.
